After all the parties and food indulgence during the holidays, you may end up feeling sluggish and bloated by the time January 2 kicks in. While there's nothing wrong with indulging once in a while, it's also important for us to keep our health in check the best way we can. If you feel you may need a reset, remember that it’s not that difficult to reverse the harmful effects of poor holiday eating choices as long you start as soon as possible by putting healthier choices on your plate on a regular basis. Here are our recommendations:

1. Apple Cider

This health tonic has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and helps with proper digestion. Apple Cider has also been currently known to help control blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

You can drink this straight up, or mix it with a glass of water.

2.  Turmeric Tea

Also known as yellow ginger, turmeric in raw or tea form contains strong anti-inflammatory properties which are known to tame arthritic conditions, boost the immune system, and lower bad cholesterol levels.

You can buy raw turmeric and boil it in water for 15-20 minutes.

3. Brown Rice

Brown rice is gluten-free and rich in magnesium, which is good for your heart. Brown rice also helps improve digestive health and regular bowel movement. It’s also known to reduce bad cholesterol levels and help in healthy weight management.

Substitute your white rice with brown rice for every meal.

4. Malunggay / Moringa Oleifera

Moringa leaves are known to contain numerous amounts of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Iron, Riboflavin, Beta Carotene, and Magnesium. Moringa is also a rich source of antioxidants like quercetin, which may lower blood pressure.

You can add moringa or malunggay leaves to any dish or soup for a vitamin boosting benefit.

5. Corn

Corn has a high antioxidant activity that help protect the body against heart disease. Sweet corn is also rich in lutein that improves vision. Corn is also rich in dietary fiber, which aids in healthy digestion and weight management.

Boil, it, steam it, or grill it, you can have it in more ways than one. It’s also a great add-on to any salad or soup which gives any dish a more satisfying and taste-enhancing advantage.
