Kale, also known as the "queen of greens," has been gaining popularity in recent years as a superfood, and for good reason.

Kale has been getting a lot of attention lately as the newest “it” food among health enthusiasts. It’s been mixed into smoothies, thrown into salads, and or eaten alone along with a delicious vinaigrette dressing. Here are some facts about this new wonder food:

  • Kale is part of the cabbage family.
  • It has curly leaves and comes in a deep green or sometimes purple color.
  • Kale is known as the "queen of greens" because of the amount of nutrient content it carries.
  • It has 17 times more Vitamin C than carrots.
  • Kale is also a good source of calcium for bone health and folate for normal formation of blood and function of the immune system.
  • It also has antioxidants such as beta-carotene, Vitamin A, lutein, and Vitamin K.
  • It is one of the easier crops to grow across Europe.

It’s quite difficult to find Kale at our local supermarkets. But, you can look for this super food at Farmer's Market, Healthy Options, or online stores such as Green Grocer Manila and Sugar Leaf. The Superfood Grocer also sells kale chips.
