The holidays are the perfect time for celebrations, and if you’re the type who takes these events as opportunities to de-stress and let loose, then you know that cocktail drinks make any festivity a tad better. Let’s face it though: these drinks tend to have a lot of sugar. And even when we’re on a holiday break, we still need to watch our sugar intake.

Fortunately, there are guilt-free and low-calorie alcoholic and virgin cocktail mixes you can make on your own. We’ve compiled five healthy but tasty drink recipes you can enjoy this holiday season.

 

Kombucha-cha (alcoholic)
Kombucha is a fermented tea drink known for its detoxifying and energizing properties as well as numerous health benefits. Some variants already have a low alcohol content, you just need to amp it up to party standards.

What you’ll need:

  • 3 oz. any fruit-flavored kombucha
  • 2 oz. coconut rum
  • Ice-filled glass
  • Lime wedge (optional)

Procedure:

  1. Mix kombucha and coconut rum in an ice-filled glass. Stir and mix it well.
  2. Top with a lime wedge and serve.

 

Zapperback (alcoholic)
The Zapperback takes a little more effort to make, but it’s worth it.

What you’ll need:

  • Whiskey in a shot glass
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 inch piece of ginger
  • 2 tbsp. coconut water or tap water
  • ¼ tsp. agave syrup or coco nectar syrup
  • A pinch of cayenne pepper

Procedure:

  1. Squeeze the juice from the lemons and ginger.
  2. Add 2 tbsp. of coconut water or tap water, ¼ tsp. of agave or coco nectar syrup, and a pinch of cayenne. Mix all the ingredients.
  3. Serve the mix in a shot glass and use it as a chaser to a shot of whiskey.

 

Barbados Rum Punch (alcoholic)
Punch is a staple at any holiday party. Level up your mix by making the Barbados Rum Punch. Ideal for potluck dinners, it’ll definitely keep the fun conversations going that you’ll want to make this repeatedly for your friends.

What you’ll need:

  • ¼ cup gold rum
  • ⅔ cup pineapple-coconut juice
  • ¼ cup fresh lime juice
  • 6 tbsp. ginger ale
  • Fresh lime or pineapple wedges (optional)

Procedure:

  1. Pour the gold rum, pineapple-coconut juice, and lime juice in a pitcher. Mix well.
  2. Cover and place in the refrigerator until chilled.
  3. Divide and pour into 4 glasses with ice.
  4. Add 1 ½ tbsp. of ginger ale in each glass before serving.
  5. Garnish with lime or pineapple wedges.

 

Virgin Ginger Elixir (non-alcoholic)
This Ginger Elixir mocktail is a great starter to your holiday meal. The best part is, it’s so easy to make!  

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup ginger juice
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup coco nectar

Procedure:

  • Add ginger juice, lemon juice, water, and coco nectar in a blender and mix.
  • Serve chilled or over ice.

 

American Virgin (non-alcoholic)
The American Virgin mocktail is one of the best-tasting low-calorie cocktails you can make.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 shot peach or apple juice
  • 1 shot club soda
  • A splash of orange juice
  • A splash of lemonade
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Lemon wedge
  • Ice

Procedure:

  1. Mix peach or apple juice, club soda, and a splash of orange juice and lemonade in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Strain into an ice-filled glass.
  3. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
