Sun Life Foundation's Project SUNBRIGHT Gains Ground in Promotion of Proper Infant and Child Nutrition

The fight against undernutrition in infants and young children is gaining ground in Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa City, with support from Project SUNBRIGHT, a collaboration between Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Sun Life Foundation) and its partner organization Save the Children.

In the past 10 months, Project SUNBRIGHT has successfully raised the number of exclusively breastfed infants from 15% to 97% and the number of infants given appropriate complementary feeding with continuous breastfeeding from 70% to 98%. The project has also reached 216 pregnant women and 557 parents and caregivers, established two community support groups, and trained 53 health service providers. Meanwhile, another 20,000 community members indirectly benefit from the initiative by gaining access to health information.

The good news was shared by community leaders during a site visit conducted by Sun Life Foundation and Save the Children.

“I am grateful to the health workers because they always visit me here. I’ve learned a lot from them because they guide me and answer my questions,” shared 29-year-old Malyn Remotin, mother to one-year old Rea Mae and one of Project SUNBRIGHT’s beneficiaries.

The site visit was graced by Sun Life Foundation President Alex Narciso, Sun Life Foundation Executive Director Kristine Millete, and Sun Life Philippines Chief Strategy and Enablement Officer Aleister Cruz. They were also joined by Sun Life’s Global Chief Sustainability Officer Alanna Boyd, who flew in from Canada.

“At Sun Life, we aspire to improve health and wellness outcomes for Clients, employees, advisors and communities. It's an important part of our sustainability strategy and central to our company's Purpose. It's wonderful to see the Sun Life Foundation expanding access to healthcare and advice in our communities so we can give the next generation of Filipinos a healthy start to life,” Boyd said.

Sun Life Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Sun Life Philippines, the first and longest standing life insurance company of the Philippines. It has been expanding health access since its inception, guided by its mission to uplift Filipino lives through sustainable community transformation initiatives.
