Bright Morning - 30 July 2026

Bringing the latest market news closer to you.

Macroeconomy

  • Iran launched a surprise attack on U.S. forces in the Middle East, but CENTCOM said all missiles were intercepted. Separately, the U.K. Maritime Trade Operations Centre reported suspicious activity in the Red Sea in a post on X.
  • The lifting of the seven-year moratorium on new PEZA-accredited IT parks and centers in Metro Manila is expected to ease the shortage of PEZA-compliant office space and help attract more technology and business process outsourcing (BPO) investments.

Fixed Income

  • Peso government bond yields fell a further 2-15 bps, supported by dip buying after strong demand at the previous session's 20-year bond auction boosted market sentiment.
  • U.S. Treasury yields rose by as much as 10 bps following the FOMC meeting. Although the Fed kept policy rates unchanged, higher inflation expectations drove yields higher across the curve.

Equities

  • Global equities fell 1.19% as investors weighed the Federal Reserve's hawkish pause and renewed Middle East tensions. The resulting surge in oil prices heightened concerns over inflation and the interest rate outlook.
  • The PSEi rose 0.78% (+49.01 points) to 6,353.04 as investors awaited cues from the ongoing 2Q26 earnings season. While MER's results were broadly in line with expectations, the stock remained among the top losers, declining 1.69% on concerns over the proposed disallowance of system loss passthrough charges.

Bright Ideas
As inflation is seen to moderate and markets anticipate rates to trend lower, don't wait for yields to go down further and consider bond funds and fixed payout products as part of your portfolio.
