Bright Morning - 19 June 2026

Bringing the latest market news closer to you.

Macroeconomy

  • Middle East supply uncertainty and rapid inventory drawdowns will likely fuel oil price volatility during the 60-day U.S.-Iran negotiations, notes Argus Media's David Fyfe, Chief Economist at Argus Media. Brent Crude fell to around $77 per barrel in Asian trade on Thursday as markets anticipated a rapid supply recovery.
  • The Philippines' macro risk profile is at its worst in a decade, leaving it vulnerable to global shocks as Southeast Asian neighbors outpace it. A DBS Bank analysis of 27 developing economies ranks the country 13th overall, marking a steady erosion from its former top regional standing.

Fixed Income

  • Philippine government bond yields ended unchanged to 5 bps higher. An initial rally following the BSP rate hike quickly unwound as investors took profits due to hawkish comments from BSP Governor Remolona.
  • US Treasury yields fell 1-4 bps as inflation fears eased following the interim U.S.-Iran peace deal.

Equities

  • Global equities rose +0.58% as easing geopolitical tensions following progress in the U.S.-Iran conflict and declining oil prices lifted investor sentiment despite lingering concerns over tighter monetary policy.
  • The PSEi rebounded +0.64% to close at 6,154 on Wednesday as investor sentiment refreshed. The rally followed a U.S.-Iran MOU to advance negotiations and open the Strait of Hormuz for at least 60 days.

Bright Idea

  • Volatile markets mean idle US dollars in savings may lose potential value. The SLIMTC USD Multi-Class Money Market Global Fund of Funds offers competitive yields compared to standard bank deposits, allowing your cash to grow and available for future investment opportunities.
