Bright Morning - 16 June 2026

Bringing the latest market news closer to you.

Macroeconomy

  • Finally, a deal. The United States and Iran reached a deal to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, easing global economic strain. President Donald Trump confirmed the deal and ended the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports. Formal signing is set for Friday in Switzerland; full details remain undisclosed.
  • Petroleum prices may normalize within six to twelve months as a U.S.-Iran peace deal nears, according to the Department of Energy (DOE). Fuel prices should ease slightly this week. The global market is reacting positively to mediator Pakistan's announcement that both nations have agreed to halt all military operations and end the Middle East war.

Fixed Income

  • PHP government bonds fell by 30-60bps as the market reacted to US-Iran's peace deal. Liquid benchmarks drove the rally as risk appetite returned in the local market.
  • US Treasuries ended the day unchanged as early gains from US-Iran's peace deal were unwound. A deluge of corporate bond issuances drove the selling in US treasuries amid hedging flows.

Equities

  • Global equities rose +1.71% as a relief rally followed the U.S.-Iran peace deal and a sharp decline in oil prices that tempered inflation concerns.
  • The PSEi logged a strong resurgent rebound yesterday, up +6.14%, closing at 6,272 pts as the sharp drop in oil prices driven the prospective conclusion of the Middle East conflict has significantly encouraged investor sentiment.

Bright Idea

  • Volatile markets mean idle US dollars in savings may lose potential value. The SLIMTC USD Multi-Class Money Market Global Fund of Funds offers competitive yields compared to standard bank deposits, allowing your cash to grow and available for future investment opportunities.
