Bright Morning - 15 June 2026

Bringing the latest market news closer to you.

Macroeconomy

  • The U.S. and Iran have agreed to immediately and permanently end their four-month conflict across all fronts, including in Lebanon. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the deal on Sunday, which U.S. President Donald Trump subsequently confirmed on Truth Social.
  • The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas may tighten for the second straight month and raise interest rates by 25 bps to 4.75% on June 18. This potential tightening aims to combat elevated inflation and a weak peso. A BusinessWorld poll shows 15 out of 20 analysts predict this second consecutive hike to anchor inflation expectations.

Fixed Income

  • Following the announcement by the Bureau of Treasury to begin issuing the new 35-day and 63-day Cash Management Bills, the market rally, dropping yields up to -16.5bps on expectations of reduced long-term debt issuance. Meanwhile, a 25bp rate hike is expected at this Thursday's Monetary Board meeting.
  • Over the weekend, the U.S. and Iran have reached an agreement to reopen the Straight of Hormuz within days, though shipowners and traders appear wary until more details emerge. While merely a memorandum of understanding, this is still a step towards an actual peace treaty.

Equities

  • Global equities rose +1.16% as easing Middle East tensions and declining oil prices, alongside strong market activity from the highly anticipated Space XIPO, drove a sharp rebound in risk sentiment.
  • The PSEi closed lower on Thursday to end the shortened trading week, down -0.53% to 5,910 pts as escalating pockets of conflict in the Middle East continues to put peace deal prospects in uncertainty.

Bright Idea

  • Volatile markets mean idle US dollars in savings may lose potential value. The SLIMTC USD Multi-Class Money Market Global Fund of Funds offers competitive yields compared to standard bank deposits, allowing your cash to grow and available for future investment opportunities.
