New year, same excuses? Not this time. These dos and don'ts will help you make small, positive changes in every day behavior that will create a happier, healthier you over time.

Are health and wellness at the top of your priorities this new year? It is important to remember that a healthier you is not just about creating a new year’s resolution. It starts with smart modifications toward a healthier lifestyle.

You can avoid common pitfalls and adopt a healthier lifestyle and a positive mindset. Here’s your guide to a strong and healthy start for the new year.

DO: Cultivate a positive mindset

A positive mindset impacts long-term health and wellness. Being optimistic and setting the right mindset can increase your life span, reduce stress, lower rates of depression, and improve overall psychological and physical well-being.

“Let go of the negative feelings from the past, but alwas learn from your experience so you can look forward to a positive future.”

DON’T: Neglect your health

Routine health check-ups are essential even if you seem to feel fine. Visit your doctor regularly. As they say, prevention is better than cure. Catch potential issues early to avoid worsening of any condition.

DO: Set clear and realistic goals

Take it slowly but surely. Avoid getting overwhelmed because of drastic changes. Begin with small, achievable steps. Simple changes such as increased water intake and committing to daily exercise can help improve your health.

DON’T: Overindulge

Overindulgence leads to obesity — a precursor for lifestyle health issues. There’s more to unwanted weight gain than meets the eye. Take care of your health by being mindful of what you eat. Choose healthier options and follow a balanced diet.

DO: Aim for progress, not perfection

Small feats are victories that deserve to be celebrated. Be prepared for setbacks as they happen. They are a part of the learning process. Make them your motivation. Celebrate small wins as you have to acknowledge your efforts and the progress that you have made too and use challenges as learning opportunities.

You are always in control of your body and your life. Use your freedom of choice to make the most out of your life.

DON’T: Skip physical activity

A sedentary lifestyle also triggers health complications. Don’t skip fitness routines and Stay active whenever possible. This will help improve your physical, mental, and psychological wellness.

DO: Possess an attitude of gratitude

Make it a habit to appreciate the positive things that surround you. Gratitude builds a healthy mindset. It promotes mental well-being and improves overall health.

DON’T: Procrastinate

Set your health goals. Procrastination will only lead to missed opportunities for improvement. Outline realistic and actionable resolutions affecting your health.

DO: Build a support system

The people who surround you also play an important role in your health and wellness goals this year. Be with individuals who can offer much-needed encouragement and motivation. They can make your journey enjoyable and sustainable.

DON’T: Take your eyes off the prize

You need to stay inspired even when things aren’t going as planned. Keep your eyes on the goal and always remember the reason why you started your health and wellness journey.

Don’t waste another second, minute, or day. Do what you can right here, right now. You always have what it takes to shine.

DO: Explore your options

When it comes to your health, you have to be proactive. Know the options that can help boost your overall wellness and protect you from the surprises that life may throw your way. Invest in health insurance plans to get the support you need from prevention to recovery.
