MANILA, Philippines — Sun Life Philippines announced that Sun Life Investment Management and Trust Corporation (SLIMTC) will undergo a planned and orderly transition following a recent review of the company’s businesses and strategy in the Philippines.
As part of this decision, Sun Life will focus its resources on its core insurance business while continuing to offer award-winning wealth accumulation products through both Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc. (SLOCPI) and mutual funds through Sun Life Asset Management Company, Inc. (SLAMCI), its mutual fund business. Consequently, SLIMTC will no longer offer UITF and other trust products, and will be transitioned in an orderly manner.
“Sun Life regularly reviews its businesses to ensure they remain aligned with Client needs, market conditions, and our long-term strategy,” said JJ Moreno, Country Head and CEO of Sun Life Philippines. "We believe we can best serve clients in the Philippines by focusing on our insurance and mutual fund businesses, where we have strong capabilities and opportunities to meet the evolving needs of Filipino clients. Throughout this transition, our priority is to protect Client interests, maintain service continuity, and provide clear information on the options available to them.”
To guide the business through this important transition, Sachi Pang, Sun Life Special Adviser to the Country Head and CEO, has been appointed as President of SLIMTC effective September 23, 2026. Pang will help ensure that SLIMTC delivers on its commitments throughout the transition and that Clients continue to receive the support they expect from Sun Life.
Affected Clients will receive direct communication through official Sun Life channels explaining their available options, key timelines and where they can obtain personalized support and guidance. Clients are encouraged to refer only to official Sun Life communications and to speak with their Sun Life advisor or contact Sun Life’s Client support channels for guidance specific to their circumstances.
Sun Life emphasized that the transition of SLIMTC does not change the company’s commitment to the Philippines. Having pioneered life insurance in the country in 1895 and remained the No. 1 life insurer in the Philippines in terms of premium income for the past 15 years, Sun Life continues to invest in serving Filipino Clients and supporting their financial security.
“Sun Life remains financially strong and deeply committed to the Philippines,” Moreno added. “We will continue to serve Clients through our insurance and mutual fund businesses. Throughout this transition, our priority is to ensure affected Clients receive clear guidance, understand their options, and have the support they need."
Sun Life will continue to offer a broad range of insurance solutions and mutual funds to help Clients address their protection, health, income, wealth accumulation, and legacy-building goals.
