Sun Life Foundation concludes Project 120 Classrooms on a high note

Sun Life executives, led by Sun Life of Canada (Phils.), Inc. President Alex Narciso, Sun Life Executive Vice President, and Sun Life Philippines Holding Co., Inc. Chairman Riza Mantaring, present a plaque of recognition to Children's Hour in honor of their support for Project 120 Classroom

Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc., in partnership with Children’s Hour, has successfully concluded Project 120 Classrooms, an initiative that aims to build 120 classrooms in areas that were heavily hit by natural calamities.

The turnover activities for the last set of classrooms were recently held in the following locations: Cubag Elementary School, Cabagan Elementary School, and Catabayungan Elementary School in Cabagan, Isabela; and Nannarian and Cabbo in Peñablanca, Cagayan.

Over 2,500 students are expected to benefit from these efforts, not to mention the future generation of learners in the aforementioned locations.

Prior to these areas, Sun Life also helped rebuild schools in Bohol, Cebu, Aklan, Leyte, Iloilo, and Camarines Sur under Project 120 Classrooms. Apart from classrooms, Sun Life Foundation also built a basketball court and several reading corners that can be used by the students. The beneficiaries were also given sports equipment, art materials, and a digital library with the help of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Children’s Hour.

“It is a heartwarming moment to see the fruition of a project that we started five years ago to celebrate Sun Life’s 120th anniversary in the Philippines. More than fulfilling a corporate social responsibility, Sun Life initiates activities like this to bring hope to Filipinos and empower them to pursue a brighter future,” Alex Narciso, President of Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc. and Sun Life Foundation, said. “Through programs like this that promote education, livelihood, and health and wellness, we earnestly hope to positively impact the communities we serve.”

Narciso was joined by fellow Sun Life executives such as Sun Life Philippines Holding Co. Chair and Sun Life Foundation Chairman Riza Mantaring and Sun Life Financial EVP and Chief Financial Officer Kevin Strain in the turnover activity. They also took the chance to bond with the school children through mural painting, volleyball, as well as storytelling.
