Sun Life Financial reaches 10th year as a public company

Last April 8, Sun Life Financial celebrated its 10th anniversary of listing on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE).

At the time of listing on March 24, 2000, Sun Life Financial had one of the most widely-held stocks in the Philippines with 193,000 initial shareholders. The initial public offering at the PSE at that time was priced between P336 to P420 at an exchange rate of P28 to a Canadian Dollar. Price per share today has risen to P1,380, more than three times the IPO price.

Ten years have passed since then and Sun Life in the Philippines has grown in size, scope and customer reach, and has further strengthened brand visibility in various key cities in the country.

“The passing of the decade saw us change in many ways. We have managed to surpass the many challenges that came our way and we have made significant progress in implementing our initiatives for growth,” said Riza Mantaring, President & CEO, Sun Life Financial Philippines. “We have expanded our distribution channels, opened new service centers nationwide, launched campaigns and programs that helped us gain insights on the changing needs of our customers, and we have launched new products and services that catered to these changing needs,” she added.

“These developments and expansion programs occurred during a decade of considerable change in the global financial marketplace,” Mantaring said.

The Sun Life chief also paid tribute to the company’s employees and agents for their hard work in helping the company succeed – not just over the last 10 years, but over the course of its rich 115 years of operations in the Philippines

“We have much to celebrate. We have been in the Philippines for 115 years now and we have grown through the years, consistently remaining as one of the top insurance companies in the country. I wish to thank all our employees and agents for all their hard work, significant contributions to our growth and their continuing passion and dedication to help every Filipino attain financial security. I would also like to thank the millions of Filipinos who have entrusted us with their protection and investment needs, ” Mantaring said.
