Cruising through Estero de Paco

In celebration of the first year anniversary of the Pasig River rehabilitation campaign, ABS-CBN Foundation under the tutelage of Managing Director Gina Lopez invited the major sponsors, including Sun Life Philippines, to a morning boat ride along Estero de Paco, a three-kilometer tributary of the Pasig River.

A year ago, Estero de Paco was a full stretch of garbage with no way for a boat to run through. But today, with the support of the government, the private sector and prominent Filipino clans, water now at the estero is free flowing enabling boats to run through all the way from Quirino (near Osmeña) bridge to the dock area near Paco Park.

Representing Sun Life at the event were Benefits and Payroll Manager Myrna Magboo,
SLF Foundation Executive Director Mari-an Albert
and PR Manager Iquit Lintag.

Posing for Posterity. Myrna Magboo, Iquit Lintag, Manila Mayor Fred Lim, ABS CBN Foundation Director Gina Lopez, and SLF Foundation Director Mari-an Albert.

This huge project has raised some P500 million in donations both in kind and in cash. Sun Life Philippines donated P49 Million, spread out over five years, for the relocation of some 580 families from those shanties along the riverbanks to the resettlement area in Calauan, Laguna. One of the ambitious goals of the project is to make the Pasig River a tourist spot.

There to represent Sun Life in the anniversary celebration in Paco were Mari-an Albert, Executive Director of the Sun Life Philippines Foundation, and managers Myrna Magboo and Iquit Lintag.
