Where the Sun will Rise in 2011
The empty lot on 5th St., Bonifacio Global City will look like this come 2011 |
“This building is a long time coming, considering the fact that Sun Life has been operating in the Philippines for over 114 years,” says Sun Life Philippines President & CEO, Riza Mantaring. “We are so pleased that we are now ready to jumpstart the project.”

The Sun Life chief said that the long wait was worth it citing particularly the manner by which the building will be built. “This building will not only act as our headquarters, it will also be an enduring symbol of Sun Life’s commitment to the Philippines,” added Mantaring. “In addition, it will be constructed as a ‘green’ office building in accordance with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Core and Shell Development) requirements for gold certification,” Mantaring said.
LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system developed by the US Green Building Council to guide building owners and operators on a concise framework for implementing green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
LEED consultant Davis Langdon & Seah have pointed out that the Sun Life building “will promote a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in key areas: energy savings, water efficiency, carbon emission reductions, improved indoor environmental quality, stewardship of resources and education on sustainability practices.”
“Making it a green building aligns with our company’s mission to provide a healthy environment for our various stakeholders, for it is through clean and green surroundings that we can work more efficiently, become more focused and productive. In other words, a green building makes strong business sense for our employees and agents and for our building tenants,” Mantaring said.
The 14-storey building, when completed will provide a 5-level basement parking for 321 parking slots; 25,000 square meter gross floor area; 1,800 square meters typical gross floor plate; 6 elevators for ground to the 14th floor; 2 elevators for basement parking; 100% back-up power; automated Security System and a building management system.
